winter solstice

Today is the 21st of December ~ the winter solstice.  So we are officially now in winter!  If you ask me winter has been going on for months already! It is however the shortest day too which means that from now on the days will be getting longer again!  Yipee...when is spring?

I am so NOT a winter person.  I do NOT do cold!

Today was also a total eclipse of the moon.  Apparently this is the first time the eclipse has occurred on the solstice since 1638!  (Guardian newspaper). I would have liked to see it but as that would have meant getting up very early with little chance of seeing anything due to being in the wrong part of the country and weather conditions.........I didn't bother!

It is bitterly cold here on this first official day of winter.  Minus 7.5 at the moment.  Even at midday it was minus 6!  We have never seen it that cold here. We still do not have any snow despite surrounding towns being covered.  They are predicting it for tomorrow though so we shall see.

What we do have is lots of ice and fog and very hard frost.  These photos were taken out of my bedroom window this morning.

Simon and I did pop to town briefly this afternoon and it was just so cold.  I hate it.  I exchanged a present for Simon and I got my snowman presents so that is me done.  Simon got a couple of things for me. All we need to do now is get a few party type eats from Iceland which we will do tomorrow.  Actually  I might just let Simon do that on his own!  Then I can hibernate!
