Today has not been the best day. I woke up with a headache which has lasted all day. I took another lot of tablets about a half hour ago and it seems now to be on its way out. I wanted to work my half hour system but I just wasn’t up to it. I also had to write out a letter for our local councillor detailing our complaint against the rugby club. (I’ll tell you about that some other time). The letter took up most of the morning, and then I had to walk down the road to put it through her door.
I had only just got back when the man from Tesco arrived with my BIG grocery shop. It took over an hour to get it all unpacked and put away. My head was pounding. I even had some lunch today as sometimes food helps when I have a bad head. I had a ciabatta roll with brie and a strawberry mousse. It didn’t help my head. I have had a lot of hot flushes today too. I have one now and have had to switch on my little desk fan.
I have also had a really bad day with Rosie. I think you all know that she is really not too good. She is very, very, frail. She has been incontinent for some time now and we are struggling to keep things hygienic! The poo is not usually too bad as it is easy to pick up and clean but she has started to wee right at the bottom of the stairs in the hall. I let her in the garden as soon as she moves but sometimes she goes out there, wanders around, comes back in and wees inside! I think she has simply forgotten. A bit like my Mum maybe.
Well today she had done a wee when she first went down stairs. Simon had cleaned it up best he could before he left for work but I had to get out the carpet cleaner. I did it over but it still seemed to smell. When it was nearly dry I put down some bicarbonate of soda as I have been told that will absorb the smell. I was planning on hoovering it up this evening.
Well I was just in the middle of preparing the veg for dinner when she came down. I went straight across to let her in the garden. I was too late. I actually slipped and nearly went right down as my foot went in the wee on the kitchen floor. I let her out and got the cloths and disinfectant to clear up. It was at that point that I glanced into the hall........She must have been saving it up.... there was a puddle by the bottom of the stairs and then a continual trail right along the hall to the kitchen. She must have been going as she walked. I burst into tears
The last thing I needed with my head so bad and dinner to prepare was to have to get cleaning again. I blotted up as best I could. Got on my hands and knees and scrubbed with the cleaning stuff. I couldn’t stop crying. Then finally out came the carpet cleaner again. We have to find another solution for that carpet. We have considered hard flooring of some sort but she can’t stand on that without falling over. She does it all the time in the kitchen. I don’t know what the answer is. I hate seeing her this way, it’s so sad.
For goodness sake now I have gone and upset myself which will not help my head.
I had planned on another of my catch up blogs so let’s do that. I think it is a week since I was here last so we’ll take things from last Thursday.
Having decided that the weather was too bad to have a few days away we blew the budget on a shopping trip! We went into the city centre to purchase a new charm for my Pandora bracelet. Simon had promised me a new one in pink to go with my dress for Verity’s wedding. A nice keep sake and I could wear the bracelet. We got busy and it didn’t happen but I have it now! Better late than never.
We looked at charms in about 4 different shops including the new Pandora shop. In the end we got Chamilia charms for Ernest Jones. I have a few of them already. I ended up getting 2 as I spotted a really cute Dalmatian charm which I had to have. Fortunately Simon agreed. Then I got a really pretty one with pink stones.

We had a lovely lunch in town and then we went to Marks and Spencer.... I LOVE M&S! I got a purple rain jacket which was in the sale. (You can see it in the photos of the steam fair) I also got a nice new skirt and a purple top which comes with a necklace! They seem to be doing that a lot at the moment. I got a really nice tunic top in another shop. It was a really nice day as I so very rarely go into the city.

Friday as you all know was the day of the dreaded mammogram. Interestingly the note that I posted regarding this got over 20 comments! A subject that gets us all going obviously. The day finished well though as Verity and Steve are back from their honeymoon and they came over to take us out for a meal. They ended up staying the night and when we got home from the meal we sat watching old cine film from Simon’s childhood. His brother has had it all put onto a DVD which is a great idea.
Saturday was a slow start. It got busier. Sam came over with Ellie and my sister and Pete dropped by as they had been to the auction at Wisbech. Then Verity and Steve came back from visiting Steve’s dad. We sat around chatting which is always good. My sister gave me a tray of herbs as she had “won” more than she had thought when she bid for them!
Sunday, Simon was out all day at a car show so I had a lovely lazy, quiet day.
Monday we went to a steam fair taking Evan with us for the day so Coralie could get on with packing up her house. The steam fair we went to was the Earls Barton rally and is an hour’s drive from here. We got there and guess what? It was cancelled! Due to the heavy rain apparently! Simon remembered seeing on the internet details of another steam fair at Melton Mowbray and said we would go there instead. After all we had promised Evan traction engines and Mummy had shown him them on the internet. The only thing was we were an hour in the wrong direction! Thankfully Evan fell asleep.
We got to the second place (which proved very difficult to find) about lunch time. It was ok. There wasn’t much there really. Only one traction engine! Lots of small steam machine thigys. There was a small gauge train which we had a ride on. That was quite good, it goes about 2 miles and even goes through a tunnel. Evan loved that. He thought it was James because it was red! (Thomas the tank engine books for anyone who doesn’t know who James is!)
Evan also liked the little merry go round. He went in a little racing car. As we weren’t too sure if he would like it Simon went with him and the lady in charge of the ride told Simon to sit on the motor bike in front of Evan. That was a big mistake. Simon ended up feeling very bad with an attack of his vertigo. Stupid man knows that roundabouts do this to him so I was not overly sympathetic.
Evan couldn’t have cared less. He just wanted to continue going round and round! He was not a happy little lad when it came to a stop. He had to be prised off! Boy did he scream! So it was an ok day but we spent an awful long time in the car and I wasn’t that taken with the show!
Yesterday and today you already know what I have been up to so I think that is me all caught up with the last week. Tomorrow I shall be trying to get on with some jobs using my half hour system. I also want to do some sewing. I am making a bag out of an old skirt and have the pieces cut out and ready. Hopefully I can get it done in a half hour.
Just before I go, Chris asked what the half hour system is. Now I know that you all know but Chris is quite new here and the naughty girl obviously hasn’t read through my thousands of blog entries so just for Chris......
The half hour system means you work for half an hour then you have half hour “me” time to do whatever pleases you. You work this system right through the day and you absolutely stick to it. So for example, if you are ironing and you have just 2 more things to iron, you still stop. Those 2 things have to wait until the next work half hour. The same with the “ME” half hour, you must stop even if you only have another paragraph of a blog to write. It works really well for me when I do it properly and I get absolutely loads done and I get some time for myself too. Try it Chris.
