It's a lovely day today, no wind and bright and sunny. It reminds me that we really need to start to think about getting our garden ready for summer. I want it to look as good as it did last year, especially as we probably won't be going away in the summer. At the moment it looks a mess, with very few flowers and terrible lawn. I think that because the dogs have less grass now their "wee" is just killing it quicker. I am trying to persuade Simon that "Astro Turf" would be a good idea. I have looked into it and it would be expensive, even for the tiny patch that we have, but it does say it is especially good for dogs as you can hose it down.
We also need to see about getting someone to come and chop down the huge tree at the bottom of the garden. I know that it seems criminal to chop down a tree, but it is very large so I am worried that it's roots may threaten the foundations of the house and also it really blocks the sun from the garden for half the day. I do like my sun.
I have been doing a bit more spring cleaning today. I finished my bedroom yesterday, including washing down the walls. I am wondering about repainting it soon. Today I have cleaned some windows and done all the normal jobs. I have a little bit more ironing to do. I managed to break a wind chime that we bought back from Tenerife whilst dusting. I knew I should have just put that feather duster away. It's very rare that we bring back anything from our holidays but we both really liked that, so it's a shame it's now in the bin.
The only other thing left to do today, apart from the ironing, is to cook dinner. We are having a fish pie tonight and I like to get the preparation for that done early. I expect Simon will go to his barn this evening, so dinner will need to be fairly early.
This afternoon, I am going to do some of my embroidery. I made a mistake yesterday and have several lines that need to be unpicked! Should have worn my glasses!! I am also going to watch the Gold Cup horse race this afternoon. You'll be pleased to hear that "Little Weed" aka Anne!! She said that she can't relax and watch the races because I make her feel guilty!! Well although I have no interest in horse racing, I am going to watch that race as I have a friend who has £5000 on a horse called kauto Star!! That's a whole lot of money!
At some time over the weekend I am going to go up and see my Mum and Dad. I expect that will probably be Sunday. I really should go and do some food shopping tomorrow. Then next week I will start to think about getting some stuff ready for our holiday. Simon has 2 interviews next week so it could be stressful. As far as I know Verity is coming home on Thursday night too. Only for the Easter weekend as she has to be back at her school placement on the Isle of Wight on Tuesday. We will only see her on Good Friday as we go away on the Saturday. I am thinking of doing a family dinner on Good Friday. So next week will be as busy as ever. I can't wait now, to go on holiday and explore somewhere new. I only hope that one of these interviews pays off for Simon otherwise he might not feel in the holiday mood.
