It's 6pm and I am home and there will be no more school for me until September, when the new Voyager school will be open. Yippee! Today has been one busy day. This morning, first thing we had 150 year 10 students doing religious education. That went reasonably well despite the fact that most of them hate that subject. I did have one boy removed for poor behaviour about half an hour before the end. May as well go out on a high note!! Then at eleven this morning we had the second exam, which was 50 year 10 students doing media. This involves lots of drawing and seemed to keep them all occupied and quiet! These were mock exams.
We spent lunch time doing the necessary paper work for the teachers, so no time to eat anything. I did manage to squeeze in a coffee though! After lunch I was invigilating the very last one of this years "proper" exams. It was the English A level and as I only had 12, I was able to sit and do the cross word. So by 4pm it was parcelled up and awaiting the postman. All done for another year!
In September as soon as the new school opens, I will be doing the year 7 CAT's tests. (cognitive ability tests!) These are done on line and only involve a few days work ..... hopefully! This year we had trouble with the on line system. It was the first time that these tests had been done on line and I think the Company who did the software and supposedly managed it, hadn't quite figured out what would happen when thousands of children across the country all tried to upload their results at the same time!!!! CRASH, big time. The result was a lot of lost data and lots of children having to repeat the tests, which meant extra days working for us!
Hopefully all will be well in September, that is of course if they have the computers all up and running by then! The current access to school email will cease on the 13th of July. Then various servers are being taken to the town hall so that the exam results can be administered from there in August. The school technicians will have about 8 weeks to set up the whole system throughout the school. This is a school of approximately 1700 students, goodness knows how many teachers, learning supports, admin staff etc... That's one whole lot of computers. The whole lot are to be wireless and this is a school that uses interactive white boards, digital projectors etc, etc.... I wouldn't want to be installing and setting up that lot , would you?
This evening I am going to spend relaxing and catching up with some blog reading and then I am going round to a friends for drink. Some red wine is in order tonight to celebrate the end of exams! Tomorrow, I need to begin to get myself back to normal.
