The Secret is something that I first read about in a magazine. It is book written by Rhonda Byrne and apparently it now has a cult following in the USA. Certain high profile stars are said to have adopted its principles, notably Nicole Kidman. The book has now also been made into a documentary film which was released in 2006. This is what it says on IMDB:
The Secret is a feature length movie presentation which reveals The Great Secret of the universe. It has been passed throughout the ages, travelling through centuries... This is The Secret to everything - the secret to unlimited joy, health, money, relationships, love, youth: everything you have ever wanted. All the resources you will ever need to understand and live The Secret. The world's leading scientists, authors, and philosophers will reveal The Secret that utterly transformed the lives of every person who ever knew it... Plato, Newton, Carnegie, Beethoven, Shakespeare, Einstein.
Interestingly, if you look at the comments on the IMDB this film has upset an awful lot of people. There are huge arguments going on between those that believe and those that most definitely don’t! Take a look here: IMDB
The book is about positive thinking and the universal law of attraction. Basically if you can think it, then you can be it.
If you want to draw something into your life, be it good health, a slimmer figure, a new car, or something simpler, such as a bottle of cold water when you are thirsty. All you need do, is see it in your head and tell yourself that it is already yours. It is a reality, it has already happened. You have to truly believe that whatever your desires they are already givens. Belief is key.
In principal it has a lot going for it and I find myself wanting to believe. I know that positive thinking often does work and in science it has been proven that like attracts like. The book suggests that you test it’s theory by believing, for example that today you will find a feather (or something similar, of your choice). It tells you to picture vividly your feather and yourself finding it.
I did this myself. I pictured a small fluffy white feather and told myself that I would find one. I didn’t ….. BUT, the following morning there on the floor by my desk was a tiny fluffy white feather. The kind such as you would find in a pillow or duvet. Now is the really strange bit……. We do not have anything containing feathers in our house, but there it was, just as I had pictured it. Weird!!
I like the concept of The Secret and intend to try and test it further. My problems with it arise when it says you can cure yourself of illness. How, I have to ask does that work with Alzheimer’s? (If only it were true it would be worth a fortune) My Mum doesn’t have the capacity to think rationally any longer. She wouldn’t be able to visualise herself as a healthy person. If I do it for her, will that work? I don’t think it works that way. I think you can only do it for yourself.
Has any one else read this book? If you have, then let me know what you think. It has certainly got people talking. It has got my interest and made me think. I do like the positive thinking side of it. That has to be a good thing and I need to remind myself of that as I do have tendencies towards being a “glass half empty” kind of girl!
