Another week, half way through already. I can't believe how quickly the time is flying by. Yesterday, I was busy as Joshua drove me to Asda so I could do the weekly shop. I like Asda, it is good value, but it is definitely not a shopping experience for the faint hearted. I don't know about elsewhere in the country, but in Peterborough, Asda definitely has a lower class of shopper!!
I don't mean to sound snobby, but it's true. These people aren't like your average Sainsbury shopper. For a start off, it's hard to pick out an English accent and that includes staff as well as customers! They all seem to be either single parents with ten kids in tow or students, or tramps or just real chavvy families who shout to each other up and down the aisles. They don't always shout very nice things either. You should hear the way they talk to their children.
Good manners seem to be few and far between; even the shop assistant was rude to me yesterday when I asked him to pass me a bag of flour as his trolley was in the way. If I had of had the energy I would have complained. I suppose that is the price you have to pay if you want the lower prices. Sainsburys of course are expensive, so it doesn't get these sort of people. Maybe I should try Aldi or Lidl next! I'm not really a snobby shopper, I just think it is amusing that you really can see the difference in the clientele in different shops.
Today, I have been busy with housework. I have changed the bed linen and that is all in the washing machine right now, so there will be more ironing later. I also have a load of clothes out on the washing line. First thing this morning I made a batch of choc chip biscuits. It was a new recipe and although they taste ok, they are not the best, so I won't use that recipe again.
I am trying a new way with pork chops for dinner tonight too. They are slit open and stuffed with a mixture of rosemary, parsley and garlic and then they are braised in milk for an hour in the oven. It is supposed to make them really tender. I used my own Rosemary from the garden and it took me ages to chop up. I think we need a new knife set. Better still I would like a mezzaluna. A special curved blade that you use on a chopping board with a dip in it. You rock it backwards and forwards.
I'm also craving a Kenwood Chef food mixer with all the bells and whistles attachments. They cost about £400!! They do last a lifetime though. I have a small hand mixer and a handheld blender, but it would be lovely to have the big professional machine.
Right, time to go and get myself some lunch. Saskia has just got in and we are going to walk up to the library soon. Tonight Simon is going to his barn and I have got myself 2 new girly DVD's so I am going to watch them with Saskia.
