Monday 2nd February

Goodness, no blogs since last Thursday!  I’m not even sure why!  As you all know, my good friend Dixie’s husband passed away last week and I didn’t blog the rest of that day.  Since then I have been both busy and a bit under the weather.  I don’t think I did anything much on Thursday.
I have had my daughter Verity home all week.  She occasionally suffers from Jacksonian fits which she was left with after a very bad bout of strep throat that needed hospitalisation some years back.  The Jacksonian fits don’t happen often, only if she is very tired or stressed.  They do not cause unconsciousness, just uncontrollable jerking movements.
Last week when she was alone in her flat getting ready for work she had an episode of jerking which caused her to slip and fall, hitting her head on the shower.  They believe that she was unconscious for about an hour given the timings. When she came round she phoned her new man who is in Cambridge and apparently she wasn’t making any sense so he phoned for an ambulance which came just a few minutes later.  As she had a very nasty lump on her head and was not coherent they took her into Southampton hospital.
They discussed with her that she is very stressed with school and that may be the reason, along with the tiredness, that caused the fit.  She is now signed off school for 2 weeks.  The new man collected her from hospital and brought her home here to us.  She has been fine ever since but has a nasty big bruise on her forehead.  It is worrying that after less than 2 terms she is finding it difficult to cope at her school.  From talking to her it does sound like an exceptionally demanding school and she even has to do things that newly qualified teachers are exempt from.
She also has a very long day, leaving her house at a quarter to seven in the morning and getting back about 6pm.  On several evenings a week it will be 7pm. or even 8pm before she gets home due to meetings.  She also has marking and planning to do once she is home. So it is a long tiring day.
On Friday....I can’t even remember what I did!  I think Coralie may have been here at some point!   I know I had a headache and felt under the weather.
On Saturday we went to the allotment and we planted our garlic, onions and shallots.  I got a couple of photos but then my batteries ran out so I didn’t get the nice neat rows recorded but I will next time we go.  Simon dug a small bed for the raspberry canes which should arrive soon and Saskia cleared a large area of weeds so we did quite well.  It still looks like a right muddle and over grown mess but it is gradually being cleared.  It was very, very cold and we were all quite relieved once it began to get dark! We had a Chinese take away for dinner and just lounged around. I had quite an achy shoulder and Simon has got bad knees!
Yesterday we did a few jobs and went to Tesco very quickly to get a couple of bits.  The snow began about lunch time but it wasn’t anything much. Sam, Lisa and Ellie came over for dinner which was lovely and as usual she entertained us! Overnight we had about an inch of snow and this morning it was snowing quite heavily but it stopped about an hour ago and it is now melting!  So much for the 6 inches they said we would get! We never really get snow here in our little corner of the UK.  I don’t know if there will be more later.  It is very, very cold.
Yesterday afternoon I finally cleared all the stuff off the old computer and while Simon was at his barn, I got my computer down from upstairs and reconnected everything up.  Thankfully everything is working! I am always worried that things will go wrong! Today, I was up early and I have done the kitchen and bathroom and some washing.  I am trying in between to give my bedroom a thorough overhaul.  It was very dusty where my desk had been.  Even the wall was dusty.  I have cleared most things now and washed down the wall.  I am hoping to take my carpet steamer up there and go over the carpet.
However Coralie just phoned to say she is coming about half one for the afternoon so I may run out of time.  I still have all the hoovering to get done yet, plus coffee time! I can’t miss that!  I was going to make bread and cakes too, so we will have to see how far I get.  Hopefully this week I will be around a bit more. Have a great week.
