Well it’s nearly time to go and get the Sunday roast underway so I guess that’s another week gone. We are a third of the way through January already, incredible. I am pleased to tell you all that Alfie is his normal self and his stitches are looking fine, all nice and clean with just a tiny bit of swelling.
I am feeling better than I was but still not 100%. I have had to get myself some sinus tablets today as I was getting that horrid facial / head pain that I often get when I have had a cold. I still have quite a cough too. I have had an easy weekend and haven’t done much really. We had Ellie here yesterday which was lovely. She amazes me more and more each time I see her.
This afternoon Joshua returned to Uni so our household has dropped back down to just the three of us again. That should help to cut the bills! We will see Josh in 2 weeks time as one of his mates here is having a birthday party so he will be home for that. Then of course it won’t be too long until half term and his 21st birthday.
Simon has gone to his barn this afternoon so I have been having a quiet time catching up on some blogs; searching out tips for energy saving, remember I talked about this recently. I got Simon to read our gas and electricity meters this morning as I want to try and gauge what we are using each week. I have also ordered some seeds for use in my own garden rather than the allotment that Coralie and I may have. Hopefully there will be news on that tomorrow.
I still want to grow a few bits in patio pots in my own garden and I have ordered seeds for runner beans, carrots, radishes, chilli peppers and a couple of different tomatoes, plus garlic which needs to be planted very soon. Apparently that does well in containers. I have also requested about half a dozen different gardening books from my local library. They were mostly in stock so I should be able to get them soon. They even have books on allotment gardening.
Tonight once we have had dinner I think I may sit and watch the start of the Dancing on ice programme. I’m not getting my fix of “Strictly” anymore! To be honest I am reluctant to get hooked on anything new as I prefer spending my time doing other stuff. I did really enjoy “Strictly” though and I only watch 2 hours of TV a week which is Eastenders. Anyway, I’ll watch it tonight and see what I think. I can do some embroidery at the same time so it’s not time wasted.
Just before I go, one of you asked me the other day about the duck eggs that I was using and what you do with them. Sorry, I can’t remember who actually asked.......... You use and cook duck eggs in exactly the same way you would chicken eggs. They are slightly larger (usually, unless you buy gigantic hens eggs!) They have a white shell and taste a bit richer and slightly creamy. They are great in omelettes and tortilla type dishes. In fact we used the last of them last night to make a Spanish potato tortilla.
Years ago Simons mum kept geese and their eggs are a whole different ball game! They are huge, about the size of 4- 6 chicken eggs! They are very rich and really yummy. I haven’t seen anywhere selling them in years although I’m sure you can get them somewhere. The geese themselves were nasty horrible creatures, really vicious. Hmm, strange that my mother in law had them ..................
