Sunday 12 September

I know, I have been MIA again for a whole week!  I don’t know where the time goes to really.  I am still not back to normal as although Josh is on holiday we had Saskia at home for most of this last week.  Josh comes home on Friday and will be here for a week before he returns to Uni.  I should finally be alone with Simon after the 26th of the month!  I might just get myself organised then.  I seem to be terribly lethargic recently.  I don’t know if that is an age thing.
It was a busy week. I had the boys on Monday and that went reasonably well apart from 2 incidents.  The first was that I left Evan in the living room while I went downstairs to let the dogs out.  He was happily watching TV.  Before I could get back upstairs I heard Flynn crying and Evan saying “wake up Flynn”!  I ran upstairs to see Evan leaning in to the travel cot and poking Flynn saying “wake up”!  I was not amused as it had taken over half an hour of crying to get him to settle in the first place!
Evan and I had a little conversation along the lines of Nanny not being very happy and that it isn’t really the best thing to do to wake up your baby brother when he is asleep!  He is so funny Evan; he went off wandering around the room sort of muttering under his breath.  I couldn’t hear all of it but every now and then he would say “Nanny’s not happy Ev” and “Evan not wake up Flynn”.  He cracks me up.
The second incident took place in the kitchen.  I was talking on the phone to Saskia and Evan wanted to be held.  He is heavy so I stuck him on the work top.  I had my arm round him so he was quite safe.  Next thing I know there is smoke which seems to be coming from the back of the microwave.  I whisked Evan down on the floor and opened the microwave.  There was a foul smell.....then I realised that it wasn’t the microwave at all...... it was the plastic bowl of tomatoes that were on top of the toaster!
Yes you have guessed, Evan had switched on the toaster and the whole bottom of the plastic bowl had melted into the inside of the toaster!  It smelt disgusting and I had to open all the windows as I wasn’t sure if it could be toxic.  Needless to say the toaster and the bowl are now in the bin.  About £40’s worth!  I love looking after grandchildren!  I know you are probably all thinking that it is a bit stupid to put a plastic bowl on top of a toaster but there was only me there and I knew it was on there, so no problem!
Saskia entertaining Evan.  They were making a robot costume!
Saskia came home on Tuesday.  I hadn’t seen her for a few weeks since Verity’s wedding.  She went over to Coralies house on Wednesday to see her nephews.  I got on with some house work.  In the evening we went to the allotment.  Saskia loves the allotment and wanted to see what we had been doing.  We didn’t stay long as both Saskia and Simon got bitten.  I was covered in insect repellent but as soon as I knew there were mossies about that was it!  We picked a few more runners and some courgettes and lettuce.
Thursday was a nice lazy day.  I did some house work but I also sat and watched a film with Saskia in the afternoon.  Unheard of for me to watch TV during the day!  It was a Disney movie called Bolt.  It’s meant for kids but we loved it!
On Friday went up to Stevenage to see my Mum and Dad.  Coralie, Saskia and the boys all came too.  It was an ok trip.  My Mum is as she always is. No change.  My Dad was as always too.... a bit of a nightmare!  He was agitated about the boys making crumbs with their biscuits and other such stuff. It was all quite stressful.  In fact Coralie has said she doesn’t want to take the boys back to his house.
Saturday we had Ellie for the day as both Sam and Lisa were working. We had to go and collect her.  The weather after lunch turned out quite nice, warm with a bit of sunshine so we took her to Hamerton zoo which is about 20 minutes drive from us.   It is years since I have been there.  When my children were at play school they always did a summer trip there and that would be the last time I went!  It is bigger now with more animals.
A White Begal Tiger
Meerkat
We had a great time.  Ellie was really good.  She walked all the way which is unusual for her as she often wants to be picked up. She was also very good at remembering her pleases and thank yous.  She wanted to see the tigers most of all and I think she was quite impressed with them.  The zoo has some white tigers which I think are the only ones in the world.  I liked the meerkats best.  They are such funny little characters.
We also had a play in the playground and a walk through the petting farm.  All in all it was a lovely day.  Today Simon has been racing the green power car with the children from school so he left at 6.30 am and didn’t get back until 6.30pm.  The green power car is an electric car made by the pupils with Simon’s guidance which they race at various nationwide green power days.  It’s a national school thing.  Sadly the car broke down and they had only done 82 laps which Simon thinks will not be enough to quality for the final.  He has done this for 10 years and they have always got to the final.
I have been busy doing bits and pieces.  I did a bit in the garden.  I cut a lot of the green tomatoes down and put them in the little green house to see if I can get them to ripen.  I have had some in a box with a ripe banana as I read that works but it hasn’t done so far!  I washed off all the garden furniture and got it back indoors.  It was hardly used this year so I know it isn’t going to be used now.  Roll on spring!
I did some washing and a bit of tidying up. I used 4lbs of tomatoes to makes some tomato sauce for pasta and pizzas.  It was a new recipe and it has turned out really well.  Most of it has been frozen but we had some tonight for dinner with Italian pork meatballs and pasta. It was very good.  I hadn’t made those meat balls before either.  Simon really like them.  Just as well as it made twice as many as we could eat so I have frozen them!
I also made a basic shopping bag out of my favourite skirt which got ripped when we were on holiday.  It was about 5 years old but I really liked it. It will be a novelty to do my shopping with it!  We are now having a lazy evening.  Simon is watching a film and I am obviously on the computer!
Coralie and John complete on their house tomorrow so I will show you some photos soon.  They will move in on Wednesday.  I am going along to help look after the boys.  Once they get the keys tomorrow they are going to go and paint the boys rooms and put up curtains etc... It’s very exciting for them.
Okay time to go now I guess but before I do some countdowns:
