Ok so I haven’t been here since Thursday but you know how it is, busy, busy, busy! You will all be pleased to know that I spent much of Friday sorting out all those wedding photos so I should be able to post them soon. If you want a taster my cousin Wendy has posted some on her blog. Click here.
Yesterday was quite nice weather wise; at least it wasn’t raining (that is due to begin tonight). We spent nearly all day at the allotment. I say all day we did have a very late start to the morning owing to babysitting the night before for Coralie until 1am! Still they had a good night out so I guess it was worth it.
Anyway...the allotment. We now have the “lean to” roof water tight (we hope). Simon and Sam have put corrugated plastic sheets on it so hopefully the rain will run off and drain at the back. Simon dug up more of our potatoes. I think we will get the last of them out of the ground this coming week. He also lit a bonfire and burnt of lots of weeds. He started on the 4th raised bed but he hadn’t got the electric saw and he gave it up as being too much like hard work! Another job for next week!
I did a fair amount of weeding. I also picked probably the last of the runner beans. There could be a few more next week but they are pretty much finished now. I picked 4 courgettes (zucchini) and they still seem to be going strong. I also picked a few carrots, some ying yang beans, about 8 green peppers and a cabbage type thing...at least that is what I thought it was.*
I nearly had a nasty encounter with some ants again too. I was busy pulling up weeds and had just gathered up a bundle to carry to the weed pile when I saw them.................everywhere, right where I was weeding. I dropped that bundle of weeds pretty sharp. Fortunately they didn’t get me. Good job I noticed them though as my next handful would have been right in where they were. Hateful things. Who invented them anyway???? Same with slugs...there is only one thing to say.....WHY????
I spent yesterday evening preparing the runners for the freezer. I have quite a store of them now. Today we decided to have a stay at home house work day to try and catch up a bit. Simon hoovered for me from top to bottom. He finished off the painting that he has been during the holidays, all the outside cupboard doors. He also did a little bit in the garden.
I have done loads of washing and ironing and the kitchen floor. I also blanched some green peppers and got them in the freezer not to mention that I made another one of those chocolate Courgette cakes to use up some of the glut. I have been freezing some as I have found that they work quite well to thicken a stew. After that it was time to cook dinner which was braised pork chops. A new recipe that was very tasty.
Tomorrow is a busy day as Coralie has returned to work so I will be having the boys. She is only working part time, 1 nightshift a week and I will have the boys the following day while she sleeps. It will not be too long a day about 9am -2pm. Tomorrow will be longer though as they have to go and do the snagging at the new house. I am a bit apprehensive as I have never had both boys on my own before and I think I am going to find it quite tiring. We shall see.
Saskia is coming home for a few days on Tuesday as she has time off from her job before she returns to Uni! I am looking forward to seeing her but as you may recall I was looking forward to being here on my own as Josh goes on holiday. Typical!
Right time to go now. I promise the wedding photos real soon!
* The thing that I had thought was a cabbage turned out to be a tiny dinky little cauliflower! I pulled off the manky looking outer leaves and was about to cut into the heart when I realise something wasn’t quite right! There in the middle was a perfect but minuscule cauli! Maybe I shouldn’t have pulled it up after all! Proof that we need to keep better records of what we are planting and where!
