The final Sunday of September

Well it is back to the grind stone for me!  Yesterday was a grotty day weather wise so we couldn’t get to the allotment.  It was freezing cold and we had a bit of rain too but with the rain that we had while I was away the ground was just too wet to do anything much.
Simon did plant some more daffodil bulbs in the front garden and I spent several hours tidying up in the back. I have now removed all the tomato plants. There was no way anything more would be happening with them.  I have a lot that I am still trying to ripen in my mini green house.  There was also 4lbs of nice ripe ones which I have today transformed into more rich tomato sauce for the freezer.  I don’t think we are going to need to buy pasta sauce for the next year!
I also emptied out a lot of my summer bedding pots that are now finished.  I hate this time of year the garden just looks such a mess and so dreary. We are going to have to do those rose bushes soon but they are still flowering away.  I got in the last of the peppers and chillies and I have frozen them whole rather than drying them this time. I read that it is a good way of dealing with them.  I am pleased as they did really well like the tomatoes.  There should still be a few more over on the allotment.
The only other thing that we did yesterday was to trawl around PC World and a couple of other places looking for a new laptop for Simon.  His has finally died.  He took it into school in the hope that the technicians would be able to revive it but they have certified it dead.  He needs a fairly high spec laptop as he runs several professional applications which need a lot of memory and also a dedicated graphics card.  This narrows down the choice somewhat.  We think we have it down to about 3 now but no decision was made!
Today we had a nice lie in and then we popped over to Coralie to see the boys before they went to church.  I should have had them yesterday while Coralie was at work but she has a nasty cold so didn’t go in.
Since then Simon has been reading a magazine and I have been making the previously mentioned tomato sauce.  I have also prepared a whole load of apples which I have sliced up and frozen ready for pies.  I made a small amount of apple sauce too.  Our apple tree did quite well this year for a tree which is around 30 years old and never gets any loving care!  We have also wrapped up about 30 to keep.  They were the very best ones with no blemishes.
Simon is currently cooking a roast chicken for dinner.  It should be nearly ready I think.  I can smell it.  We are having it early so that he can have a long stint over at his barn this evening.  Once dinner is over Joshua will be off back to Bedford for the start of his final year at university. Tomorrow I will be alone!  Yippee!  Finally, totally alone.  Mind you they will probably all come back in 2 weeks time for my birthday!
Before I go I have a few photos for you.  They are of Evan and Flynn taken at the park last Tuesday just before I went away.  Check out my September album for more.
PS.  It is the 26th of September so I should have done a “my day photo blog” but.........I didn’t!  I will try and do it tomorrow!
