Has anyone else realised that we are already over a third of the way through January? In fact by the weekend it will be half way over and it will be all downhill to February! Oh just remembered I promised Wendy regular countdowns to Christmas, she needs to be much more organised this year! SO.... it is 346 until the big day!
This week seems to be flying by that’s for sure. It’s been a mixed bunch so far too. Monday I was looking after the boys at Coralie’s house whilst she slept at my house after her night shift. Evan is being toilet trained! He is out of nappies........ He is weeing everywhere but the toilet! So I not only had the 2 boys and the puppy to take care of I also had to contend with “wees”!
I’m not really sure what happened, the boys were good but everything seemed to keep going wrong at once. The pup was crazy...............The final straw came just at the end of lunch. I had cleaned Flynn and got him down from the table when Evan suddenly yelled he wanted a wee. The downstairs toilet is close by so I grabbed him up quick in the hope we could at least get a bit of wee in the right place. No such luck it was all over him and me! As I plonked him down there was a crash. I stuck my head out to see what was going on.... the pup had knocked Evans milk off the table and Flynn was paddling in it. I lost the plot somewhere around that point!
I phoned Coralie and told her I had enough and she would have to come home! I don’t think she was very pleased as she hadn’t had that much sleep. The thing is I was getting so stressed out that it wasn’t fair on myself or the boys and I didn’t want them to pick up on how wound up I was. I had a headache and indigestion! I ended up having to lie down for while when I got in. I also got really upset with myself. After all I have brought up 5 children and always had dogs at the same time.
However I am now twice the age I was back then! 2 little ones and a puppy is a lot! I am going to have them at my house next week so that will remove the dog from the equation and hopefully Evan may have figured out the toilet training business and we can get back to normality. I used to always look after them at my house but after Coralie moved just up the road from me we thought it would work better if I went there. So anyway, that was Monday!
Yesterday I was again at Coralie’s house as we had made arrangements for a friend of mine to come and give us sewing lessons. Denise is a retired teacher from Simon’s old school. He worked with her for years. I also knew her from when I worked there. To cut a long story short we saw her just before Christmas and somehow it got mentioned that Coralie and I had been look ing around for sewing courses. Denise volunteered her services! Brilliant.
We are both basically beginners in the sewing stakes but we both would like to do more. Coralie is going to start off with a memory quilt and a basic dress. I am going even more basic than that. I am going to have another go at a lap top bag and also a little pouch for my Kindle. We had a nice time with Denise and she had lunch with us too including some of Evans “garlic cake”! It was actually banana and yogurt but for some reason just recently Evan tells everyone that any cake he has helped to make is garlic cake!
Denise is going to come again next Tuesday and we have already got lots of projects in mind. One of the things that I would like to do this year is to have a go at a lot more handmade presents. Although we cut down a lot on what we spent this Christmas it was still an awful lot. I am at home all day so I really should have time to make things myself. I have lots of ideas and I know I have to start them now. After all there is only 346 days to go! Seriously it wouldn’t be any good starting in November.
Today I have been doing house work chores. I still have to finish the hoovering, wash the kitchen floor and do some ironing. I have until 7pm as Simon is in a meeting tonight so won’t be in until then. I am doing a quick meal of pea and ham soup which I made and froze a week or so back. I shall also get the bread maker going this afternoon. The bike ride I am still thinking about.
What I think I shall spend most of the afternoon doing is a bit of stumbling..... I love stumbling! Then I am going to do some more family history research. Funny how so many people are getting into this now. The internet makes everything so much easier and more accessible. I remember the old days of trawling through massive books at the records office and wandering around grave yards etc. I am so grateful that I have the internet and there is stuff that I am still finding which I never would without it but I have to say I still love the old records and the old churches and graveyards.
I have very fond memories of searching a graveyard one day when our children were quite young. We had spread out a bit and Samuel and Coralie who were perhaps about 7 and 6 were reading the grave inscriptions a little way across for us..................Suddenly there came an almighty s shout! “I’ve got one, I’ve got a Glenn, I’ve got a Glenn”! We looked up to see Sam and Coralie literally jumping up and down on a grave in excitement! They had indeed “got a Glenn”. Those memories are special.
Ok time to go and make coffee me thinks.
PS. I did go out on my bike. It is such a miserable grey day here and I really didn't fancy it but I needed milk too so in the end I cycled to Coralies house which is a round trip of one and a half miles. I then walked with Evan to the shops and back. So at least I got out even if the distance was a bit pathetic.
