It has been another busy few days. Time is flying by. Only 17 days left now until the big day. I think I might persuade Simon to put our tree up on Saturday. We never have it up too early. When the children were small it was tradition to put it up on the first day of the school holidays. That is usually around about the 20th of December. We would decorate it together with Phil Spectors Christmas album playing in the back ground.
You know it isn’t the same when there are just the 2 of us putting it up. I don’t want to wait until Josh and Saskia are home though I want to get it done. I must see if I can get Phil Spectors Christmas album on CD or an MP3 download. If you recall last year we scrapped our record player so we can no longer play records. Do you also recall that we agreed that we would get rid of all our records? Yep, you know it......... I took mine to the charity shop.........Simons are still sitting there one year on. Mainly because his bloody brother poked his nose in and said don’t get rid of them. Another thing that’s going to be worth money at some point in the next gazillion years!
Yes, yes, I am quite savvy I do know there is a market in old albums but I also know they have to be rare copies, or signed copies or demo copies and in mint condition. Albums they were sold in their millions and are now scratched and have tatty covers are not worth a thing. But of course Simons brother fancies himself as a music specialist because he plays in a little band and therefore because he has spoken my shelves are still cluttered with records we can no longer play!
Wow that was a good rant!
Oh before I started ranting I was going to show you my new Christmas tree bauble.
It is for Jessica’s first Christmas. I have one of these for each grandchild so 4 in total. I have also got an identical one for their parents. Aren’t they cute? I wonder how many we will end up with. I am guessing 10! I’m still waiting to find out if anyone is going to give us a 2011 grand baby. We have had a baby a year for the last 4 years. Ellie in 2007, Evan in 2008, Flynn in 2009 and Jessica in 2010!
Today I am having a half hour day as I have a lot that I want to get done. The week so far has been quite a lethargic one. I haven’t been able to get any energy or motivation. I’m doing ok today though. I have done my bedroom and the kitchen and bathroom. I have hoovered through 2 levels. All I really have left to do is to hoover down the last lot of stairs and the hall then I need to wash the kitchen floor and I’m done. I don’t have to cook dinner tonight as we are eating out.
It is the annual Walton school reunion at The Paul Pry pub. It starts at 5pm but Simon says the earliest he can get home today is 5.30pm so if I am ready we will go straight out. This is the school where both Simon and I worked, the one that was knocked down when the new school was built.
The other thing I have done this morning was to make some fairy cakes (you Merikans call them cup cakes ..... fairy sounds much nicer!) Yesterday I tried out a new recipe for Hummingbird cake. I had a slice last night but Simon has taken it to school so as I fancied something to go with my coffee and I had a tiny bit of cream cheese left over I decided to make me some fairy cakes. They are chocolate orange flavour with orange cream cheese frosting. They are yummy! A while back someone asked me how to make these; it is easy peasy my kids were making these from about 4 years old. I will put the recipe in my recipes thingy though.
I will also put the recipe up for the Hummingbird cake too. I found this recipe on a blogger blog. I quite often look at different blogger pages and usually turn up something interesting. If you don’t know what Hummingbird cake is, it is a bit like a dense carrot cake but made with pineapple, banana and coconut. It was very tasty! Rich though. Simon thought it should be lighter! I pointed out that it has a lot of fruit content and was not meant to be a bloody sponge cake! Men! I know he will come home with an empty tin tonight anyway.
Well that’s my half hour gone so I am going to go and finish that hoovering. This afternoon I am going to do some family history stuff. I don’t know if I mentioned before but I have just found out that my GGGG grandfather left a will and I want to apply for a copy of it. How exciting is that? I also want to look at the 1901 census. I have never bothered with it before because it won’t give me any information that I don’t already know but I have recently discovered that it is in their own hand writing! How exciting to see your ancestors hand writing! I wonder if any of them will look like mine?
